I Have Two Pieces Of Chipped Bone In My Calcaneous

I have two pieces of chipped bone in my calcaneous (heel) bone. It was x-rayed approximately 6 weeks ago and I wore a walking boot for 3 weeks. The pain is better, but the spot where the broken bone is still hurts and is very sensitive. It makes it difficult to walk as the pain shoots up both sides of the back of my foot as well. How long should I wait before seeing another doctor regarding this injury? The doctor I saw initially just wanted to talk surgery, but I was hoping for a non-surgical way to promote healing. Is there a prosthetic or shoe insert I could use that would reduce the pain and tenderness while it continues to heal? Thank you.
