I Haven't Had My Period In Six Months I Usually

I haven't had my period in six months I usually have irregular periods but not that bad and I was put on birth control and usually ur supposed to start bleeding I thought at the end of it well I started bleeding at the very beginning and now I have been bleeding for almost I wanna say 2 and a half weeks and it's still heavy I didn't take it today because I think something is wrong is this normal should I stop taking the birth control when will I stop bleeding . How come my periods aren't normal can this affect me having children
