I Hit My Toe A Few Weeks Ago, It Initially

I hit my toe a few weeks ago, it initially swelled, bruised, and became immobile and very sore. Now as of today, the swelling is down considerably, but it is extremely itchy. I am curious as to why it would be itching and what I can do about it.
