I Hit The Back Of My Left Hand While Playing

I hit the back of my left hand while playing with the grandkids. Next day the knuckle under pointer finger hurt and is swollen and red and soar. I don't. Think it's broke but it does hurt worse the more I try to use my left hand and I am left handed. What should I do for it and how long will it take for it to get better?
