I Live In An Apartment Where For The Last Couple

I live in an apartment where for the last couple of months I could smell an odor. Last night when I got home from work, it was very hard for me to breath and I was sneezing a lot. Couldn't catch my breath when I went into kitchen area. Quickly decided to open patio door so I could get some air and breathing improved. Found out freon was leaking in refrigerator. Could that make me have these symptoms? Also have had a headache for last few months and did quit smoking 7 weeks ago because of that and the SOB I had.
