I Noticed A Painful White Patch Under My Tounge In

I noticed a painful white patch under my tounge in the center near my salivary glands yesterday. now today most of the white skin kind of fell off with still one small piece still hanging there and still pain when I tongue it. Can't stop wondering what it could be and where it came from and if it will just keep going away and healing on its own.
