I Noticed The Inside Of My Left Cheek In My

I noticed the inside of my left cheek in my mouth that there is little white skin tag is what my dentist told me it is. He told me if it is still there in 2 weeks that I may need to see a specalist. Why? Could this be cancerous? Thank you for your answer.
