I Put Knives With Rubber Handles In The Dishwasher By

I put knives with rubber handles in the dishwasher by mistake and during the heat cycle, a strong smell of burnt rubber filled the house. The dishes in the washer all had a film on them. We washed them over but some of the dishes were plastic. Could the fumes seeped into these dishes and what effect would these fumes have on us?
