I Randomly Have Very Sharp Pain On The Right Side

I randomly have very sharp pain on the right side of my tongue. No other symptoms. A dentist hit a nerve about 40 years ago and told me I may have problems when I get older. Could that be in? Nerve damage? this started about 6 months ago. Not all the time, sometimes weeks without the pain, but sometimes it several times a day.
