I Recently Got A Text From Someone I Was Sexually

I recently got a text from someone I was sexually active saying they contacted syphilis before we slept together. I'm just wondering how long after contracting syphilis can I be tested without the risk of running a false negative so I don't put others at risk. Thank you for your time!
