I Recently Had A Blood Test And My Vitamin D

I recently had a blood test and my vitamin D level is 26. I understand normal is between 30-100, with optimal 60-70. I am told I should take a vitamin D supplement. Is there a specific type of vitamin D I should take? By that I mean I've seen vitamin D3. Is that what I should take, or is there a overall vitamin D?
