I Recently Hit My Shin On Some Sort Of What

I recently hit my shin on some sort of what I believe was an animal trap in a bush when I walked into it and triggered it. The needles went deep into my shin three days ago and now the holes have scabed over but the skin is really mushy and soft and when I press it with my thumb it leaves an indentation. What could this be?
