I Recently Tested Positive For Strep. I Was Put On

I recently tested positive for strep. I was put on penicillin and at times forgot to take a pill so i would take two at once.. I've done it before and never had a problem but now my gums are swollen and I have a couple canker sores.. Are the two related somehow?
