I Remember Getting Earaches As A Kid, But Haven't Had

I remember getting earaches as a kid, but haven't had one in many, many years. Last night I experienced an ache that hasn't quit despite using drops and pain reliever. What's unusual this time, also, is a recurring shooting pain from my chin line to the outer edge of my ear. Any idea what's causing the pain?
