I Seem To Have Arthritic Pain In My Right Hand

I seem to have arthritic pain in my right hand fingers, which feels like arthritis, the pain can come very suddenly and then ease. I've had the pain only on the right hand and while the pain is not constant like having broken ones, this pain can be very very sharp and I can't move my fingers. Does a painkiller like ALEEVE, TYLENOL, ADVIL ease the pain or would a topical cream/lotion be best. Pain only stays in middle fingers and at the top of palm but never at the thumb or palm. Could this be arthritis or is it something else?
