I Started Out By Having Ringing In My Left Ear

I started out by having ringing in my left ear one night. My GP said I had a viral infection and ETD from a cold and told me to take ibuprofen and steam and that this could take 2-3 weeks to resolve. One and a half weeks later and my cold like symptoms have reduced but the ringing in my ear continues although it has lessened somewhat. Should I be concerned about this? How long does ETD take to clear?
