I Strained My Bicep Tendon. A Cortisone Shot Was Recommended

I strained my bicep tendon. A cortisone shot was recommended for a speedy recovery. the pain is manageable but I am going on a golfing vacation. with ibuprofen, how long will it take to recover? I do not like the idea of taking steroids, but will if it does not have any negative impacts.
