I Suddenly Have A Hard, Painful Knot On The Joint

I suddenly have a hard, painful knot on the joint just below my great toe on my right foot - where the toe joins the foot and on the outside. It wasn't there yesterday and is painful to the touch. It makes me limp and seems to have stiffened the joint.
