I Suddenly Lost My Sense Of Taste. A Few Hours

I suddenly lost my sense of taste. A few hours ago, I was eating toast, and got a piece stuck between two of my teeth, and I tried to get it out with my tongue. It was a hard-to-reach area, and my tongue was literally twisted, when in the bottom part of my tongue, the part where my tongue and the bottom of my mouth join, I felt what I can only describe as, "snap!", there was no noise, but I felt, "snap!",. It wasn't painful, it just felt weird. As soon as I felt that "snap!", I haven't been able to taste anything, as in nothing at all. I went to my local emergency room, and they said they didn't think there was anything they'd be able to find-out/do, and didn't think that seeing me wouldn't be worth my bill since they probably wouldn't be able to find-out/ do anything. Is there anything I can do, either to discover the cause of this and if it will be permanent, or to recover my sense of taste?
