I sustained a broken sternum and broken second rib as well as a contusion to my heart in a car accident on Dec 30, 2015. The sternum did not heal by itself and was surgically repaired on May 4th, at which time they discovered the broken rib. I had been instructed per usual no pushing, pulling etc. I remained in my recliner at night because it hurt to lie flat. I sat in the recliner during the day to remain quiet and allow the healing to happen. I was not given any instructions as to rehab exercises or methods to regain my strength. It is now 8/1/16 and I am now able to sleep in my own bed and I'm doing limited chores at home. Should I be doing specific rehab exercises and who would prescribe those? My surgeon or my PCP? Since I have not done any rehab to date, have I limited the amount of recovery I can expect?
Thank you, Debbie S
