I Take Nifedipin XL Tab 30 MG ER One Tablet

I take Nifedipin XL Tab 30 MG ER one tablet daily. I forgot to ask my doctor how I should be taking this drug - on empty stomach? With food? Morning, noon or nite? I also wanted to ask about any side effects. I am a 75 year old woman & the only other drug I take is synthroid for a thyroid problem. Thank you
