I Think I Have A Hematoma Above My Left Hip

I think I have a hematoma above my left hip due to falling on the stairs. It has been there for about a month and is painful. Is this something that might need draining? I plan on seeing a doctor, but would like to know a little more about. It its a rather large lump. Please tell me more than just go see a doctor. Thank-you.
