I Think I May Have Irritated A Tooth Root By

I think I may have irritated a tooth root by using too much dental floss. The whole area is sore and the area under my jaw on that side seems swollen and hurts.
Can I take a pill Amoxicillin 500 mg for a possible infection . My dentist is not available until Monday and I need some relief.
