I Took My Birth Control Medication For The 21 Days

I took my birth control medication for the 21 days as directed. I was directed to cease the medication for 7 days while my period occurs. However, my period did not start until 5 days later. Should I start taking the birth control medication after the 7 day period as directed, or should I wait until my period is finished? I am 26 years old, 5'6" ~200 lbs. The medication is called Diane-35. I have been on this medication for only 1 month.
