Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I want to discuss a complex case of my daughter. She has mild autism with delayed speech. And hyperactive. Still drools at the age of six. She had a seizure when she was 5 years old at home with high fever. Then again after 2 hours. We rushed to the hospital and she had a third seizure there. And has to put on ventilator for few minutes. Acute pneumonia was diagnosed. all three seizures had no tightness of limbs. Just loose tone and eyes rolling up. MRI was normal but EEG showed some activity. She was put on Valprin. Subsuquent EEG after 2 months was also abnormal. After 2 months EEG came ok. Valprin was gradually stopped and Frisium adviced during high fever. All went normal for 1 year and 8 months. Last Friday she had a seizure again with fever and no Frisium. Viral fever which was 100.8 at home and within 20 mins when we reached hospital was 103.4. This time too loosening of limbs and blue lips for few seconds. We rushed to hospital while she had again one in car. Same for few seconds. At emergency she was given midazolam IV and then sodium valproate IV. MRI normal and EEG normal. Now docs are gradually reducing Valprin and adding Levipil Syrup. Now because of my daughters autism and speech problem she can't explain whether she has a headache or nausea or anything. We just are observing and guessing. Last night she had few episodes of vomiting and is very sleepy. I don't know how to deal with it. Was it a febrile seizure which docs say no as she is nearing 7 years age though physically she looks like 5 and mentally 4. Speech wise she is almost a 2 year old. I'm feeling helpless as what to do. I don't want to loose her. So many tests and pricks and still nothing conclusive. Was it atonic seizure or was it even a seizure or something else.
