Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I want to start out by saying my question is strictly informational and will not be acted upon without true professional recommendation and information. Also, my question is in regards to vision and specifically the eye. When I was young I went to a specialist to check my vision. Afterward, I was told to wear an eye patch over one eye because the other was not forming enough connections with the brain and began to affect my vision. Even after the patch my vision never fully corrected due to a lack of nerve connection though my vision will not get worse either. Even with this, my depth perception and other visual qualities are strong but everything in the weaker eye seems darker as if there is a lack of visual input (light). I can see that normally the only issue is reading letters. But I can see faces and make out details of images. I have dark brown eyes which I understand is caused by melanin in the iris which also can restrict or absorb the light that enters the eye. I was wondering if removing the melanin from the weaker eye, could it improve the vision of that eye because it would increase the amount of light/information entering the eye? I am approaching this in an engineering mindset but it seemed to make sense in theory.
