I Was Asleep And Woke Up Coughing, Like I Have

I was asleep and woke up coughing, like I have a cold with mucus on mu chest. When I coughed to spit it out it looked like a clump of blood, bright red mucus. What is wrong? I sound like I am wheezing and cold building up in my chest. When I cough, it the same bright red clump of mucus.
