I Was Diagnosed With Boxers Knuckle From An Injury. I

I was diagnosed with boxers knuckle from an injury. I did not hit anything it happened when I got my finger bent while removing my jacket. It's been about 12 weeks and my knuckle is still quite swollen and feels tight when I try to bend it. My hand Doctor put a special splint on it but it still pops out when I bend it. She suggests surgery to correct it. I'm 69 Years old but in good physical condition can this issue resolve itself without surgery or is it better to fix it now.
