I was prescribed Plavix at hospital after having had septic shock and a "mini stroke.” I suspect the latter caused a fall, unconsciousness and a minor injury to the skull. I was released from hospital May 20/15 with instructions to take 75 mg Plavix and 81 mg ASA daily. I suspect the side effects of the Plavix include, in my case, hypotension and resulting insomnia, somewhat blurred vision (possible intraocular, retinal bleeding, possibly) and a general feeling of weakness.
I exercise regularly, go on walks, etc. It would seem to me that I might be better off taking the Plavix every second day until the current one-month’s supply runs out. My family doctor said I could go off the Plavix in three months (advise given after a series of blood tests), but left that decision to me after advising me about the possible pros and cons of going off the Plavix prior to the hospital doctor’s recommendation of staying on it for one year. I have been on Plavix (“APO-glopidogrel 75 mg., clopidogrel bisulf 75mg.”) for well over three months, if I take into account my stay at the hospital where I was given 75 mg Plavix daily.
And so, taking into account my circumstances, should I go off the Plavix totally, just taking the 81 mg. ASA daily, or should I be on it at the rate of one pill per day, or should I take one Plavix pill every second day (as I’m currently doing)?
I’m 5’11”, 135 pounds, with a good appetite and otherwise feel healthy. My recent blood test showed that my creatinine level has gone down from 150 to about 100, and the other indicators from the latest blood test show that I have much improved in one month.
Thank you for any help,
Mauri
