I was recently in hospital for a week. Admitted from ER with very bad occipital headache. Bloods were normal, and Neuro ordered MRI (no contrast). WML was seen on MRI, so CT Angiogram was done (it was normal.
No vascular abnormalities or atherosclerosis). The neuro then discovered that the WML had been seen but not reported on a CT I'd had in 2015, so she ordered another MRI with contrast. Lesion was diagnosed as a 5 mm neuroglial cyst which they believe to be developmental and had not grown since 2015.
Extensive Paranasal sinus disease was also noted, which could have explained my dizziness and congestion. I also had a 24hr Holter fitted and various bloods done which were again normal. I decided to stop smoking when admitted, and have been doing a great job, but I slipped up and had a cigarette.
After my hospital experience I'm absolutely terrified of it causing me to have a stroke. I had a reaction to the gadolinium in the form of a petichial rash and was put in a short high dose course of prednisone which I have just completed.
It caused me to have a HR just over 100, so that is also making me nervous. Is the damage from smoking accumulative or would one cigarette cause a blood clot straight away? I know this sounds like a ridiculous question but I suffer from anxiety and all if this has been an extremely stressful experience for me.
I have had two full work ups by the cardiologist this year. Eco and treadmill stress test, and numerous ECGS in the ER, and the 24hr holter. All were normal. My blood pressure is usually low normal at around 100+/74.
