I Was Recently Prescribed A Different Brand Of Birth Control

I was recently prescribed a different brand of birth control pill. I was wondering if it is safe to go from the last active pill in my current pack (microgestin fe 1/20) to the first active pill of the new pack (orsythia) so that I can skip my period. And does switching brands affect the effectiveness of the pill at first?
