I Was Taking Over The Counter Medication For My Allergies

I was taking over the counter medication for my allergies but I have been coughing really bad. I stopped taking the medication because I did not know long you should take the medication. I do not like taking medication for to long with out knowing the affect it will have on me later on. I am 53 years old and am over weight also.
