I Will Be Having A Needle Biopsy Of My Thyroid.

I will be having a needle biopsy of my thyroid. Have read that some go very smoothly and don't hurt and many take longer and are very painful. I don't take pain well and get very nervous about this type a thing. I know the area will be numbed a little bit, but are these ever performed with general anesthetic if requested?
