If I Have Been Taking Metoprol For A Rapid Heart

If I have been taking Metoprol for a rapid heart rate (Aphib) for several months. My heart rate is still extremely fast, so my cardiologist just recommended that I increase my dose. Tonight, I happen to notice that I am supposed to be taking this with food, but I have not been. As it is a Friday, should I continue NOT taking it with food and increase the dosage as the doctor recommended? OR should I begin taking it WITH food?
