If I Start Taking A Birth Control Pill Today (not

If I start taking a birth control pill today (not during my period), will I be able to skip my next period? My next cycle is due to start 31st July but I’m going on holiday and don’t want to take the temporary pill due to the side effects, especially as I would be taking it for quite a long time. I’ve taking the combined pill before and have been fine on it. Thank you.
