If A Pediatric Special Needs Patient Has Recently Had Nissum

If a pediatric special needs patient has recently had nissum surgery (about a month post surgery) is it normal to be spitting up mucous from a possible sinus infection? We were under the impression that she would not b able to spit up or vomit at all_should we be concerned?
