I'm 13 And Got My First Period About 6 Months

I'm 13 and got my first period about 6 months ago, but why do I have such heavy and long bleeding?? Its last usually a week and the first two days are really bad. It's very annoying and stressful to deal with. So why is it heavy and how can I lighten it? Thanks
