I'm 87 Years Old And Have Been Coughing Up Yellow

I'm 87 years old and have been coughing up yellow phlegm occasionally over the past several days. At least that's when I noticed it. A week ago I had a routine chest xray which showed that my lungs were clear and heart normal size. Any suggestions as to what may be occurring?
