I'm A 58 Year Old Pharmacist But Wanted Your Opinion.

I'm a 58 year old pharmacist but wanted your opinion. I Was put on Lisinopril about 2 years ago and took it for about a year. . BP well controlled, but finally discussed with my doc and we agreed to throw in the towel due to the coughing induced side Effect of this ACE inhibitor. He switched me to Losartan 25 mg once daily, but I monitored my BP and it was all of a sudden fine for the past 6 months or so so I've been on no meds as we agreed. (Had a consult with my doc and he said yes I could d/c my meds but wanted me to loose 10 lbs which would put my weight at 205. UnfortunatelyI didn't do it.) Now 6 months later after on no meds , my BP is now up again (averages 140/94) and I can feel the aggravating headaches and tired eyes. I went ahead and filled the losartan25mg script he gave me back when he switched me from the Lisinopril. After 2 days in the Losartan 25 mg, it's slightly down, about 138/86 on average. I know the starting dose of Losartan is 50mg. and perhaps he gave me this 25 mg as I was coming directly off my Lisinopril. Should I raise the losartan to 50mg since this is the starting dose anyway? Puzzled as to why my BP disappeared and now is coming back... Is this characteristic of hypertension from what u have seen??? And lastly should I go ahead and up my Losartan to 50mg and monitor? Thanks Doc....I will recommend you for the Goodman and Gillman award in pharmacology!!!!
