I'm A 69 Yr. Old Woman And Have Become Sexually

I'm a 69 yr. old woman and have become sexually active after a 7-8 yr. hiatus. I've never been treated with hormones and had very mild menopausal symptoms. I never had dryness issues when I was sexually active, but the pain with recent intercourse was severe enough to have to stop. I'm assuming this pain is the result of age-related loss of elasticity. I do not have a history of urinary tract infections or other female issues. Will a hormone cream correct this condition and what is the average time to correct this problem?
