In The Last Week My Right Thumb Has Been Causing

In the last week my right thumb has been causing me pain. The joint seems to click from one motion say bent to straight. It also feels swollen. The thumb also hurts where it joins with the hand although I'm not aware of injuring it. I' wondering if it might be arthritis?
