Inflamed Gums, Headaches, Dizziness. Family History Of HHT. What Should Be Done?

My sister and uncleboth died of pulmonary hypertension. Now family members tell me the correct diagnosis was HHT. My sister was 40 when she died. Although no one seems to have symptoms should my family and my sisters also be tested? I have gingivitis and have my teeth cleaned every 3 months. These past few weeks i think my gums are inflammed. i have had some headaches, been dizzy and not feeling well in general. What should I do?

Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
From your query i understood that you May be suffering from Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.

As it run in Autosomal dominant pattern, first you have to confirm whether you have HHT or not.

If not, then you do not have to worry about HHT, just antibiotics and NSAIDS can cure that gingivitis.

If you have following, it is HHT.

1. Nosebleeds are spontaneous and recurrent
2. Telangiectases are prevalent in lips, oral cavity, fingers and nose.
3. AVMs are present in lung, brain, GI, liver or spine.
4. Family history indicates a parent, sibling or child has HHT

If you have HHT, then you have to be precautious about it.

Treatment for this condition is only symptomatic.
We cannot stop Telangiectasis and new AV malformation.

Iron tablets, Iv iron sucrose, blood replacement are common for all bleeds.

Depending on location of bleed treatment varies.

Hope this helps.
If any doubt, Please reply.

Take care.
