Is Clara-tin, Effective For Runny Nose In Infants?

Hi my daughter is 18 months with runny nose and bad cough...i think she must have coughed for 12 hours continuously last night. We have been advised to give Ventolin syrup twice daily and Zyrtec which has never seemed to work. The pediatrician suggest we try Clara-tin.
