Is Haloperidol The Right Medication For Recurring Bipolar?

Thankyou.I am going through some of son's old meds. He is bipolar. 33yrs hospitalized every 2 to3 years since age 19. It's been over 5 years now the longest time since last hospital stay. He had been getting a shot once a month. His life finally coming together. A year ago last October he started a really good job, however it was in another county. Now he had been on SSI since the age of 21. His job provided really good insurance. So he had to get doctor in the county he was living, plus he got off SSI. Long story short, he hasn't had a shot since last January. I stared notice old behavior in March n April. So I asked about his medication. He told me he had a new Doctor and he had a prescription for Haloperidol n he had refills. But are you taking them, I asked. He said only if he feels he needs to. So here we are back to possibly need hospitalization. He was fired from his dream job( he loved his job and it hurt him greatly). He would not have lost that job, if he had still been getting the injection once a month. He was living on his own too, for t first time. He is feels bad enough, that he called t behavior health center himself. They told him to go to t local ER. I have all of his old meds from when he was living with me. Dates have expired was wondering if he might be able to still use? He told me He is trying to get an appointment with Doctor, But can't until January 26
