Is Ibuprofen Suggested For Swelling Of Throat And Cough?

My son, age 7 yrs, 4 days back had swelling in the throat and dr. suggested brufen syrup. after taking it, he had running nose and slowly cough became vigorous and he could not sleep in the night for the past 3 days. Dr. says mild adenoids and prescribed coscopin and lots of hot water, honey, saline goggle. What is it, is it really adenoids or something else? I am afraid tonight also he will not sleep. Also a medicine which might quieten his cough, i will be grateful.
