Is A Knee Brace Necessary After The Reconstruction Surgery?

I am due for an act reconstruction surgery this year am willing to take it as I am an active guy. I am aware that full recovery can take up to a year or so but was wondering whether a knee brave is necessary? and if so, am I allowed to refuse to wear it?
