Is A Tumor On Base Of Spine A Life Threatening Condition?

I am trying to find out what I was born with. Medical records have been destroyed. I was born with a fatty tumor at the base of my spine, there was a cord attached to it that was wrapped around my spine and I was born missing 30% of my tailbone. The tumor and attached cord were removed surgically when I was 4 weeks old. All I know besides that, is that it is a very rare condition and if not treated surgically, it is life threatening.
