Is Bilateral Hip Replacement Necessary For Avascular Necrosis?

I have recently been diagnosed with avascular necrosis in both hips. This condition has been going on for approx. 6 months untreated. My doctor said I will need a bi lateral hip replacement but I cannot even see a surgeon until March. I am worried that this can possible be fatal. Is that true
