Is Boot Sufficient For Corrective Positioning Of Foot Post Achilles Repair Surgery?

Neglected ruptured Achilles approximately two months. Surgically repaired, but in a cast x 3weeks. surgeon wants to place in another cast x4 weeks. I feel this is overkill. Cast came off accidently, noticed full ROM of ankle, toes and even normal gait. unable to push off with toes fully. what about a boot? Even PT and time may resolve issue w/o cast. 48 yr old male w/o significant medical issues. noted tendonitis in other ankle due to use. formally medic in the Navy and OR tech. seen several cases where boot was sufficient after surgery with corrective positioning of foot. please tell me there are other options
