Is Brown Spotting Normal While On Birth Control Pills?

this month i missed a few birth control pills, (well i took them, but late), i dont know if it has anything to do with that, but my period is suposed to start next weekend, but right now i have sort of "spotting", it comes and goes, but i dont think it really looks like blood, would it be normal if its like brown ?
